Are we becoming an oveprotective society?

I’m 50 years old. When I was a kid, we drank out of dirty garden hoses instead of a bottle, rode our bikes WITHOUT helmets and knee pads…fell down…got stitches…and our parents DIDN’T sue the bike manufacturer. We fell out of trees, broke bones, busted teeth out…and nobody got sued…ever.

Some of us tried out for little league and cheerleading…and DIDN’T get picked….we learned to deal with disappointment. And if we broke the law…being bailed out was unheard of.

Are we slowly robbing ourselves of a new generation of risk takers and problem solvers?
Larry, larry, larry…what would I do without you? LOL
Just for the record sandeep…getting hurt in the process of playing is a chilld’s rite of passage…NOT being careless. I was only trying to make the point that the government is trying to hard to protect us from living and LEARNING.

I have 3 kids and they are being raised old school all the way. They ride their bikes without helmets, and if they ride in the road they get their butt whipped. End of story. I agree with the no accountability any more theory. Nobody wants to be responsible for themselves, let alone the monsters that they are throwing on society. My kids already know if they ever go to jail, calling me will be a waste of time. I talk to their teachers, know everything that is going on with them, tell the teachers to call me if they EVER have ANY issues with my kids… I have yet to get a call. I can actually be a parent and still work 40 plus hours a week to pay my family’s way, no welfare. So for the parents that say this can not be done they are full of it. I say Parents need to start parenting instead of letting the tv, computer and community raise our children. And to Diamond, there is no way in heck that I would let a freak up the street limit my children’s playing outside. That is where teaching them to stay away from strangers, stay in their own yard, or designated area, and threatening that freak to within an inch of his life if that he better not ever put a pinky on one of my children comes in. We all had the touchy feely uncle, or the neighbor that we had to stay away from, etc.. We learned to deal with it, run like hell and knee them in the balls if necessary.
